Utalii college to get land for Kisumu campus

Kenya Utalii College is set to establish its third campus after the county government pledged to provide land.

Commerce, Tourism and Heritage Executive Rose Kisia said she was in the process of transferring the land.

Utalii College has campuses in Nairobi and Mombasa. Dr Kisia said expansion of space for the campus currently being hosted at Mega City building was not the solution.

"Instead of just expanding the current rented space, we prefer to give land for a state of the art Utalii facility in Kisumu County," she said.

Kisia revealed that the county's accommodation bed capacity has significantly increased from 2,000 to slightly over 4,000.

"When we had the devolution conference, there were concerns that we were not going to manage to host 6,000 people, but we did," she said.

She said Kisumu County currently has a Standards Officer who ensures that quality serves are met in the hospitality industry. "In Kisumu County, hospitality is one of the running programmes," she said.
