KITALE: Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi dismissed Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula's presidential bid terming it as unrealistic and called on Luhya leaders to support his (Mudavadi’s) quest instead.

Mudavadi took his campaigns to Wetang’ala's stronghold in Trans-Nzoia County where he observed that the senator's presidential bid launch in Kakamega was inconsequential.

The ANC party leader argued that Wetang’ula has a long shot at presidency since he has to battle for CORD’s nomination against his co-principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

"My brother Wetang’ula is putting his bid on the table and he has not been tried and tested like myself and though it is constitutional right to contest the presidency but his bid is unrealistic," he said.

Mudavadi who spoke during a meeting with Amani coalition delegates, insisted that he is a well-placed candidate for the presidency from Western region and urged other leaders to support him.

"I contested for presidency in 2013 and I came third. I have been tried and tested by the electorate and I have developed a strong political muscle and I have all what it takes to govern the country and I appeal to our people to support me," he said.

Mudavadi also dismissed the much touted Luhya unity arguing it is a theory that is being pushed with a wrong context.

"This theory of Luhya unity is pushed with a wrong context. We all need unity but it should not suppress our constructional rights. We all need to consult and embrace openness," he said.

He expressed optimistic that Amani coalition will win the 2017 elections by a convincing vote and form a government that will be respected and appreciated by all Kenyans.

"We have put strategies to win the 2017 polls and let me assure Kenyans that my government will uphold the constitution and a respectable and appreciated one," Mudavadi promised.
