State to build Sh50m technical training institute in Kitutu Masaba

The Government will fund the construction of a technical institute in Kitutu Masaba to the tune of Sh40 million.

Sh10 million under the Constituency Development Fund will also go towards the construction of Mong'oni Youth Technical Institute, which will remain a branch of the Gusii Institute of Science and Technology (GIT).

According to GIT Pincipal Athanas Mokaya, the construction of the institute is in line with the Government's policy of setting up a technical training and vocational institution in every constituency.

Speaking on Friday during the ground breaking ceremony, Mr Mokaya, who was accompanied by area MP Timothy Bosire, said the project is an integral part of developing the county because it will tap young minds and equip them with skills that will steer the economy as well as development.

"For years, higher education has focused more on growth of universities, leaving out technical tertiary institutions. The economy needs both professional and technical skills to drive growth," said Mokaya.

Mr Bosire told the contractor, Tazama Builders Limited, to do a good job.
