Court grants bond to 42 suspected Mombasa Republican Council members

Forty two suspected Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) members who have been in police custody were yesterday granted Sh200, 000 bond and surety of a similar amount by Kwale Law Courts.

They were charged with belonging to an illegal organisation, holding an unlawful assembly in Tiwi on December 31, last year and raising money for an illegal cause.

Kwale Resident Magistrate Paul Mutai released the suspects who have in custody since Thursday and warned them against engaging in illegal acts.

The magistrate set the hearing on March 21 and mention on January 21. He ordered the accused be remanded at Shimo Latewa Prison as they process the bond.
