Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) Parliamentary Group on Tuesday met at the ODM headquarters with Raila Odinga, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Senator Moses Wetang’ula to chart the coalition’s legislative agenda.

During the meeting, the members resolved to stand in solidarity with teachers of this country during this period when there is uncertainty over their pursuit for a salary increment.

“We, just like other Kenyans feel their pain and will continue to press the government to honour the 50-60 percent salary increase which was proposed by the government through the Teachers Service Commission. The Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay attitude is not and will not be the solution to the problem.”

The CORD leaders said occupy Harambee House initiative every Tuesday as declared during last week’s Uhuru Park rally with the aim of compelling Jubilee government to honour the court decision to implement the teachers’ pay increase is on. “We however suspended it to allow the court process to go on uninterrupted as we believe in the rule of law and order.”

They emphasized their full support for Hon. John Mbadi’s motion to table an amendment to the Appropriations Act to source funds from non-priority areas in the National Budget and make them available to pay teachers and similarly challenge the Jubilee administration to respect the independence of the Judiciary and stop their covert actions aimed at intimidating and/or influencing judges.

Members said they are on course with the Motion of Impeachment against President Uhuru Kenyatta for his continued violation of the law and the constitution.

CORD fully supports the Equalization Fund Bill which seeks to correct the historical injustices in the specific Counties identified by the Commission for Revenue Allocation.  “We shall rally all our troupes in Parliament to support the bill when it is brought back to the House.”
