The Nakuru Kanu branch has distanced itself from a two-week ultimatum issued to the party chairman Gideon Moi to convene a meeting to resolve party issues.

The branch disassociated itself from the statement issued by one Wilson Leitich and said it would summon him to explain who gave him the mandate to speak on its behalf.

Addressing the Press at the party offices, branch chairman John Ngunjiri said they have confidence in the leadership of Mr Moi.

“The Nakuru branch does not hold any political grievances with the party headquarters as of now and we wonder whose interest Mr Leitich is representing,” Mr Ngunjiri said.

Leitich had called on the party to put its house in order, accusing Gideon of remaining silent on unresolved issues. But the branch leaders said Leitich has no mandate to speak on behalf of them since he does not hold any position and asked him to keep off party affairs.

“He should be advised to keep off the running of the Nakuru County party headquarters, which is running smoothly, unlike in his tenure before the multiparty era,” the joint statement read.

Ngunjiri was accompanied by officials including Peter Okech (secretary), Joel Tanui (Treasurer), Burton Onyaru (assistant organising secretary), Evans Ekaliche (youth leader) and Silas Mukolwe (executive officer).

They said the sale of Kanu House in Nakuru town over a bill owed to Kenya Power by the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) had been stopped by the court.

“KICC was taken over from the party through an executive order and we don’t have any bill. Kanu House still remains the property of the Nakuru branch. However, we have sent letters to the chairman asking for his intervention into the matter,” said Ngunjiri.

The officials said party meetings are guided by the Kanu constitution 2012 and are called as per when a need arises.

“The branch will continue to subscribe to the party headquarters and affirm its loyalty as regards management at the national and branch levels,” they said.
