Scholars, leaders pay tribute to the late Prof Paul Ndalut, a lecturer at the University of Eldoret

Politicians, scholars and professionals from across the country yesterday paid tribute to the late Prof Paul Ndalut, a lecturer at the University of Eldoret and an established chemistry researcher.

Ndalut passed away on August 16 at the age of 74 after suffering a stroke in July.

Prof David Some, chief executive officer of the Commission for University Education, described Ndalut as an excellent researcher who cared a lot about the future of applied sciences and the citizenry in general.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said Ndalut’s contribution in the field of applied sciences cannot be underestimated, saying he had a direct impact on agriculture through soil testing experiments and discoveries.

“He was a dedicated servant and always wanted to see lives around him transformed. He put much emphasis on soil testing and his works should be carried forward to solve some problems in the agricultural sector,” he said.

Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat eulogised Ndalut as one of the few scholars who committed his services to his country.

“He was an astute advocate of organic fertiliser usage and wanted farmers across the country to embrace the same to save soils from extreme acidity that results in dwindling yields,” said Lagat.

And Kipkorir Menjo, director of Kenya Farmers Association, said Ndalut was always ready to offer knowledge and support in issues affecting crop and livestock production.

Other leaders in attendance were Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno, Moiben MP Silas Tiren, former minister of Higher Education Margaret Kamar, Chesumei MP Elijah Lagat and Nandi County Assembly Speaker Edwin Cheluget.
