Three students arrested over dormitory fire at Dagoretti High School in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: Three students have been arrested over a fire incident that burnt a 100-capacity dormitory two weeks ago at Dagoretti High School, Nairobi.

Police say the students, two in Form Four and one in Form Three, are expected in court on Wednesday to face charges of arson as investigations continue.

Dagorreti OCPD Mohamed Rashid said the students were arrested after investigations revealed they were behind the incident and that they had not established the motive behind it.

“They will appear in court as we seek for more time to enable us finish investigations because we believe there were many others involved in the incident,” said Rashid.

They are accused of starting the fire on July 22 in their dormitory where property of unknown value was destroyed.

Police were sent to the school Tuesday night after tension mounted amid claims of fresh plans to burn more property. No incident was, however, reported.

On Monday, three students of Stephjoy Boys were killed and 10 others injured in a fire incident. Police are holding 11 students in connection with the incident at the school.
