Girls, take it easy, easy does it; life is not instant coffee!

Dr Auma Obama welcoming his brother POTUS to Kenya

If there is one important lesson that hopefully our Kenyan women have learnt in the last one week, it is to keep the faith.

No, I do not mean that if you are dating a girl called Faith and she recently attempted to kill you in your sleep, or she raids your wallet when you are in the washroom, or she has behaved in a manner likely to suggest she can excavate your ‘transformer’, that you continue flirting with apparent disaster.

No, the faith we are on here is strictly virtue. Kenyan girls have one problem. They do not want to mingle with their peers, they want to jump the queue and start flirting with men ten or more years their senior. These girls are not bothered by the limp performances by these old men in bed; they are more focused on the wallets these men flaunt.

The average Kenyan girl, mostly in college or on her initial years of employment, wants things and life to happen in an instant as if life is a turbo-charged Subaru Forrester. Look here girls, life is not instant coffee, please go easy. If you want life to be kind to you, stick to the rivers and the lakes that you are used to.

Last week, the entire nation was in awe as Dr Auma Obama hitched a ride in POTUS’s official car. If only we could flashback 27 years ago, when Obama, then a youngster just out of college, came to Kenya. His sister went to pick him in an old battered Volkswagen Beetle. The president himself revealed that the car would break down so often you would have thought it had tuberculosis.

Fast forward and last week on Friday, most girls nearly choked on their cheap drinks and soda as they watched wide-eyed when  Auma was ushered into the stretch limo, otherwise known as ‘The Beast’ by the stern looking yet wonderfully beautiful secret service agent.

What is the lesson here girls? If you believe in something give it time. Auma somehow knew that her younger brother was destined for big things. She had a feeling that despite living in a tiny flat and driving a battered coupe, life would somehow happen; and it did.

What girls need to realise here is that you need to stick to your skinny and broke boyfriend. There are aspects that come to be just to cement your relationship. Your boyfriend, not unless he is an incredible imbecile, will not be skinny and broke forever. Girls, you need to have a sense of investment.

You need to approach a love relationship with the shrewdness and determination of a unit trust manager or stock broker. Look, the reason why you are young is because nature expects you to invest long-term in your man. Why can you just take some time and wait for opportunities if indeed you love your man?

For goodness sake, even a chicken has the patience to sit on its eggs for three weeks so that it can bring new life into the world. If the chicken can wait for good results, why can’t you hang out with boys your age and wait to reap dividends.

Girls, I have faith that it is not beyond you to plan your life beyond this Friday. Give it a shot, for life is surely not instant coffee!
