Moses Kuria wants Kidero, Khalwale sued over recent chaos

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria said he would conduct private prosecution against Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale if they are not tried.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to prosecute Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale for allegedly mobilising ethnic groups that caused chaos at Milimani courts.

Kuria, who is himself in trouble with the Francis Kaparo-led commission over alleged hate utterances, warned that he would conduct private prosecution against the two, if they are not tried.

He termed the two groups allegedly organised by the two camps to fight after court proceedings as ethnic militias, whose culture must be arrested through the prosecution of their leaders.

The legislator said the actions by Kidero and Khalwale amounted to propagating of ethnic-based violence and incitement, thus they must be prosecuted to contain such incidents as the country prepares for the next elections.

"By mobilising rival ethnic militias, the two proved that they do not deserve to be called leaders," said Kuria in his statement sent to media houses yesterday.

The MP said the sentiments expressed by Khalwale after the second round of running battles between the two groups last week that Kidero's supporters had found their match in his gang, was an indicator that the groups were well mobilised against one another to fight along ethnic lines.

He said it was worrying that police had to be called and forced to shoot in the air to disperse the two groups who were fighting 'at the hallowed corridors of justice'.

Kuria said the statement by Khalwale bordered on inciting his gang against members of another ethnic group, thus asked Kaparo to instruct police to arrest the senator for propagating ethnic based violence and incitement.

"These are unfortunate statements laced with ethnic profiling, prejudice and stereo types which have no place in the modern, cohesive and united Kenya that we seek to build in the 21st century," he said.
