Real Madrid President Florentino hints Sergio Ramos will stay at Real Madrid

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez appears to have sent a subtle warning to defender Sergio Ramos.

The Spaniard continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United, having reportedly told his current club that he wants to move to Old Trafford earlier in the summer.

However, Real insist he is not for sale, and have apparently offered him the captaincy next season in a bid to persuade him to stay the Bernabeu.

He was vice captain to Iker Casillas, who has left the club to join Porto, ending a 25-year association with Los Blancos.

Speaking about the departure of Casillas, Perez, who has come in for criticism from Real fans, hinted that Ramos would be staying in the Spanish capital.

He said: "Raúl also thought as Casillas has, that he could continue his career far away from Real Madrid. Iker has earned himself the right to ask for an exit from the club.

"There are players on contract that the club does not want to let go and are not going to leave."

Real tweeted a picture of Ramos all smiles as he boarded the plane to travel to Australia for the club's pre-season tour.

New boss Rafael Benitez still wants to sign David De Gea, and any deal struck could still involve the 29-year-old moving in the other direction.
