Robin van Persie wants £12m Manchester United payoff

Robin van Persie wants a £12million pay-off to leave Manchester United.

Turkish club Fenerbahce have tabled a four-year offer to the Dutch striker that matches the £250,000-a-week deal he currently earns at Old Trafford — and United are prepared to allow Van Persie to leave for a cut-price £5m to get him off the wage bill.

But the 31-year-old will demand that they pay up the last 12 months of his contract if they want him out.

Despite reports in Istanbul that the move to Fenerbahce is a done deal, Van Persie will seek talks with manager Louis van Gaal before making a decision on his future.

He is desperate to go into next summer’s Euro 2016 at the top of his form - if Holland, currently third in their group, get their act together and qualify.

So a season being used as an impact substitute by Van Gaal is not an option for him.

Van Persie was out sailing with his family in Holland on Saturday as news broke that Fenerbahce are prepared to shatter their pay structure to get him.

His agent, Kees Vos, is in Istanbul to listen to the offer, but United will have to come up with a big pay-off package if the move is to go ahead.
