Online tool to monitor governance launched in Kisumu

KISUMU: Residents are set to benefit from the new development check tool implemented by National Taxpayers Association (NTA) in monitoring resource use and governance in the county.

The online tool funded by German Development Cooperation (GIZ) is aimed at simplifying checks and balances in order to reduce malpractices.

Data collected from the county will make it possible for the tool to check on the contracts, county projects and resource allocations.

NTA Nyanza Regional Coordinator Deurence Onyango said the two-year project is expected to involve public capacity building, research and analysis of data from the county to help provide a focus on monitoring.

"This is not a finger-pointing witch-hunting process meant to pin down people for not using public resources. The end result of this process should be improvement of livelihoods and accountable use of public resources," Onyango said.

Other counties set to benefit from a similar project include Busia, Nyeri, Kwale and Tana River.
