Toast to a stylish master bedroom

Your master bedroom is your personal retreat so it goes without saying that you should turn it into a little heaven where you can reign and rule. A grand four poster bed will create an instant dramatic effect.

If that is beyond your budget, find a way to create canopies of fabric for a spectacular effect.

Even mosquito nets can be draped in a way that gives the room a stunning effect while keeping those annoying biting bugs away.

 Comfort is key

After a hard day’s work, you want to enter a room that gives you rest while providing relief after a long day.

Most interior-space theorists argue that work-related items like a desk and a laptop should be kept away from the bedroom, but the truth of the matter is that in this digital era, there are many people who find themselves tapping away at their laptops from the cosy comfort of their beds.

To encourage a good posture, it pays to have a desk where you can catch up with emails if need be, leaving the bed for its core sleeping business to recuperate rather than to work.

Place a slightly informal chair in the bedroom desk such as a pretty floral or striped patterned chair that looks and feels less rigid than an office chair and which can double up as a dressing table.

While it has been argued that the television should be kept away from the sleeping area, there is nothing more cosy than watching a movie in bed, a retractable television which can pop up at the touch of a remote control when needed and retract back into its slot when it is your time to sleep.

To provide a good support for your back while reading or watching in bed, load up your bed with fluffy down pillows and luxurious bed linens. Invest in two or three sets, which you can rotate but whose colours can easily blend.

Balance

Besides the bed, there are other pieces of furniture that help your space look well-balanced while provide storage for your personal items.

Bedside tables are useful for placing a reading lamp, a clock for those days you can afford to hit the snooze button as well as your latest cant-put-down novel or is it novels for those who read five books at a go?

The drawers provide storage for keys and wallets so that they are reachable but out of sight, creating a clutter free work-top.

If you have an elongated room, a two-seater love seat can be placed at the foot of the bed to create a lounge for chatting, reading or watching television.

A blanket box at the foot of the bed provides elegant storage space for bulky woolen blankets and duvet.

After all is said and done, this is a sleeping area so curl up in bed and get some much-needed rest.
