Do not pull out of the 2017 presidential race, MPs tell Senator Moses Wetang’ula

Eight Members of Parliament from Western region have warned Ford Kenya party leader Mr. Moses Wetang’ula from pulling out of the 2017 presidential race.

The MPs welcomed the IPSOS poll rating which placed Wetangula at18 per cent and endorsed him as the region’s presidential flag bearer.

The MPs led by Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa and his Kanduyi counterpart Wafula Wamunyinyi said the poll is actual and factual.

Trans-Nzoia MP Janet Nangabo said time has come for Western region to produce a president and said Wetangula is the right candidate for the position.

Other MPs who endorsed Wetangula’s presidential bid included Likuyani MP Dr. Enock Kibunguchy, nominated MP Patrick Wangamati, Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, Saboti MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi and Bungoma MP Reginalda Wanyonyi.

Nominated senator Beatrice Elachi lauded the opinion poll and urged leaders from Western region to unite and support Wetangula for the Luhya community to achieve the dream of having one of its own occupy State House.

Speaking at St. Brigid’s Girls national school in Trans-Nzoia County, the MPs pledged to support Wetangula and urged the CORD principal Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka to put their weight behind the Bungoma senator to battle it out with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.

The MPs said the rating of Wetangula is motivating and a political boost for the Ford Kenya leader and argued that he is the best candidate to unseat Uhuru.

While drumming up support for Wetangula, the MPs pledged to market his candidature to other communities and urged the Luhya community to rally behind him but warned him against quitting the presidential contest.

“We are impressed with the score card and rating and it is your turn to lead this country. We will ensure your name is on the ballot and win the presidency contest,” said Nangabo.

The MPs resolved to join hands in sensitizing the people in the region to acquire national Identity cards and register as voters.

“Your name must be at ballot box but if you chicken out of the contest do it at your own peril,” warned Dr. Chris Wamalwa.

Wetangula said he is optimistic of wining the CORD nomination and challenged former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi and Eugene Wamalwa to back him.

“The nomination to pick the flag bearer will be bruising and I’m sure of carrying the day. Let us support our people to acquire IDs and voters cards,” said Wetangula.

Trans Nzoia County Governor Patrick Khaemba and his West Pokot counterpart Simon Kachapin called for the unity of Western to boost the chances of capturing the presidency.
