Nairobi City County Governor Evans Kidero warns Nairobians against land scams

Nairobi, Kenya - Nairobi City County governor Dr. Evans Kidero has today warned Nairobians against purchasing grabbed land.

“It has come to my attention that some individuals are grabbing County land and erecting structures on them. A case in point is LR No. 209/21270 in Githunguri Road, Kileleshwa.  Any person claiming ownership of this land should produce legal documents to the Chief Officer Lands, Nairobi City County. Any structure erected on County land without approval will be demolished and action taken on the people concerned. The County government has already issued a notice for the removal of illegal structures,” Says Governor Kidero.

The governor further said that the Nairobi County government respects its citizens and will not harass anybody who is acting within the law.

“The County’s Executive for Lands and Physical planning and his Chief Officer are on hand to issue approvals after clarification of documentation. Therefore Nairobians should not shy away from seeking clarification.  Would be land buyers should be extra cautious when purchasing land and should always insist on production of proper documentation. County approval processes only take two weeks,” Says the governor.

The county government has also stopped the construction of the Kes 1B business complex on Mbagathi way after it emerged that the owner had constructed it along a river bank.

Further, the county government has intensified the auditing of buildings in the City and other parts of the country after recent incidences of collapse of building structures, the Nairobi City County government has teamed up with the national Government, particularly the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Urban Development (Public Works and the National Construction Authority) to undertake the exercise comprehensively and complete the same in good time. The audit exercise will run concurrently with enforcement of non-compliant building structures.
