Kenya's Opposition party CORD wants Duale forced to release list

Some Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders want National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale compelled to produce a list of financiers and sympathisers of Al-Shabaab.

Duale had said he would expose them but later made a U-turn, saying he has no such list to disclose.

Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo (Wiper) accused Duale of playing politics with the issues of security yet many people have lost their lives due to terror attacks.

"Duale must be made to release the list so that we can know who is selling our country to the terrorists. Issues of terrorism must be handled well and that list must be produced unconditionally," said Mr Maanzo.

The legislator revisited the continued presence of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Somalia, saying the Government should now come up with an exit strategy.

"Construction of the wall is a waste of time, what should be done is to withdraw KDF and deploy them at the border," said Maanzo.

Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo (ODM) advised leaders to weigh their words, saying it is sad for leaders to play ping pong with security matters.

Ford Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu also took issue with Duale's statement that he owes no one any list of Al-Shabaab financiers and sympathisers, saying that the Majority leader should be careful while speaking.

In a report presented to the President, North Eastern region leaders have recommended the deployment of 600 security officials to the region, allocation of at least 60 vehicles and sufficient funds.

The leaders have also proposed registration of all public transport vehicles, a ban on all importation of vehicles through Somalia, as well as enforcement of a policy on registration of hotel guests by area county governments. They also want all businesses vetted afresh.
