Medical colleges to be set up

The management of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), has finalised assessment of two sites in the county where it intends to set up two colleges.

Speaking to The Standard, Liaison Officer Lucy Kuria said KMTC will build a college at Kaptumo Centre in Aldai constituency while another will be set up at Mosoriot Town in Chesumei.

"The county is ripe for KMTC and our presence is in line with a programme to roll out these colleges in 14 counties where the college does not have a presence," she said.

Ms Kuria, who spoke at Watergate Hotel in Kaptumo, said the institution is now working on a programme for courses KMTC intends to offer in the respective colleges.

On his part, Aldai MP Cornelly Serem said his CDF office had set aside Sh8 Million to support the college's construction.

KMTC County Coordinator, Racheal Rop, said the two proposed sites have the blessing and recommendation of the Nursing Council.

An interim committee, to ensure the smooth set up of the Kaptumo College, has been created with Felix Maiy as its leader.

The Kaptumo college intends to receive its first lot of students in September this year.
