Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, Birdi to be charged in court today

Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and his URP nominated counterpart Sonia Birdi will be charged today after a court threw out their application to stop the prosecution.

The two also risk losing their parliamentary seats after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) made recommendations to the National Assembly for disciplinary action and initiation of appropriate mechanisms for their removal from office.

High Court judge Mumbi Ngugi yesterday ordered the two legislators to present themselves before Chief Magistrate Court in Naivasha to face charges of creating disturbance on January 24 at the Gilgil Weighbridge station.

The two rushed to court to stop their arrest and prosecution after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko directed EACC to do the same. Keter told the court it will be an abuse on his fundamental human rights to have him arrested and detained. However, Ngugi stated that Keter and Birdi had failed to prove how their rights would be violated through prosecution.
