We will support you if you clinch CORD nomination, leaders tell Wetang’ula

Bungoma, Kenya - Local leaders have pledged to support CORD co-principal Moses Wetang'ula's presidential bid if he succeeds at the coalition's nomination stage.

The leaders including Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Bumula MP Boniface Otsiula and former Bumula MP Bifwoli Wakoli were speaking at separate funerals they attended at the weekend.

Mr Lusaka said they are undecided on who to support as a presidential candidate because CORD is yet to decide on it's presidential candidate for 2017.

"If Wetang'ula is nominated as CORD flag bearer we will support him and if he ditches the coalition and vies as Ford Kenya party candidate we will still offer him our support. However, if he is playing with our minds then we will not because it is well known that Raila might be the presidential candidate come 2017," Lusaka said.

Mr Wakoli echoed Lusaka's sentiments saying Wetang'ula might not be a serious presidential candidate owing to the fact that CORD has it's 'owners'.

"Wetang'ula has been announcing that he will be vying for the presidential seat in CORD. It is, however, known that the coalition has its owners and he is ranked third after Odinga and Musyoka.

If he does in fact emerge the winner at the nomination stage, we will automatically support him because he is one of our own," he said.

Wakoli said his support will only go to serious politicians not those planning to hoodwink and sell Luhyas at the cheapest price for their own selfish gain.

SURE WIN

On his part Mr Otsiula said if Wetang'ula vies as the Ford Kenya presidential candidate then he will offer his support to ensure he wins.

Wetang'ula has, however, urged Luhyas to support him because he is optimistic of emerging the winner at the nomination stage.

"I have enough experience as a politician and I am calling for your support so that we can change the governance of this country.

This State has been thrown to the dogs by the Jubilee administration and it needs experienced leaders to rejuvenate it," he said.
