Police on go-slow for delayed dues

Baringo, Kenya: Police officers deployed to curb rampant cattle-rustling in Baringo County are on a go-slow, the Standard has learnt.

The 145 officers from the Rapid Deployment Unit, Ant-Stock Theft Unift and Administration Police stationed at Arabal, an insecurity-prone stretch in Baringo South, are protesting withheld operational allowances amounting to Sh4.5 million.

The money was to be paid to the officers in the three months they have been in the area.

The officers were deployed following Deputy President William Ruto's orders to push away Pokot herders who have invaded the region displacing residents.

A number of the officers who spoke on condition of anonymity said they have resorted to the go-slow due to delays by their bosses to listen to their grievances.
