Why the state of Kenya-China union is racist

NAIROBI: So, the racist Chinese eatery has been closed? We have to be more courteous to our investors and treat them with the respect that they deserve.

I must confess that when I heard there was a place Africans were not allowed in, unless they were accompanied by Caucasians, or token blacks who had earned their trust, I made two quick conclusions.

First, that Chinese must have had very good reasons for their discriminatory acts, and second, that they knew they were bound to get away with such backward behaviour.

As it turned out, indeed, my gut feeling was accurate. The Chinese were keeping Africans out of their premises after 5pm to spare them the wails of mongrels being slaughtered for dinner, or the hissing from snakes that served as appetisers.

Apparently, such meats do not require inspection from City Hall, as snakes and dogs aren’t considered as food in our law. Some imaginative Kenyans developed a menu that was likely to be used at the eatery, and it included mbwa kienyeji (free range dogs).

As to the second claim that the Chinese suspected they would get away, they have been spared any litigation touching on discrimination, and what should have kept them out of business permanently.

Instead, the owner has been charged with offences relating to licensing.
