Ruto hits out at MPs over funds misuse allegations

Governor Isaac Ruto has dismissed claims that he failed to involve Bomet MPs in public participation meetings, and did not exercise prudence in management of funds allocated to the county by Treasury.

He said the MPs had been invited to several meetings held at the county headquarters and their respective constituencies but they did not honour the invites.

Mr Ruto claimed the MPs are, knowingly, misleading the public to further their selfish political agenda.

“The Controller of Budget and Auditor General have not raised any issues of financial impropriety against my administration. If indeed there are cases of financial mismanagement, then I would have been prosecuted over the issues. The issues they are raising are not new, for the last one year, they have preached the same gospel of untruths,” said the governor.

END SQUABBLES

At the same time, leaders drawn from Nakuru and Baringo counties have called on Deputy President William Ruto and the Bomet governor to end their squabbles.

A women’s lobby group in Baringo County urged the two leaders to engage in meaningful politics rather than dwelling on political supremacy battles that might cause divisions in Rift Valley.

Foundation of Women Rights Nakuru and Baringo chapters chairperson Susan Chesiyna said voters have a lot of expectations from leaders, and it was a disgrace for them to undermine each other.

“The deputy president has been able to unite the community, which is now in the Government.

“Those engaging in politics are not keen in addressing the welfare of the community,” said Ms Chesiyna.

She was reacting to the spat pitting the deputy president against governor Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
