Abducted ‘Standard’ journalist found, two others receive death threats

Eldoret: An Eldoret-based Standard journalist who was abducted two days ago has been found.

Michael Ollinga (pictured) was found by this reporter at the Eldoret main bus stage in a state of shock and confusion without his personal documents, including his cellphone.

Mr Ollinga, who is a correspondent with The Standard, was abducted on Sunday night on his way home after watching a football match at a joint near his home in West Indies estate.

"As I was approaching my house at around 1am, I noticed a grey Toyota car parked next to my gate with four occupants. One of them called me by name and because it was dark I could not recognise him. I walked towards the car before they pounced and bundled me into the vehicle," he said.

Ollinga was forced to drink milk believed to have been laced with drugs, as he soon became unconscious. He woke up in a deserted house, which from his abductor's conversation, is somewhere in Molo.

He was grilled over land-grabbing stories he has been writing and warned to stop following the same. Similar death threats have been issued to an Iten-based correspondent, Fred Kibor and KTN Cameraman Simion Chepkwony.
