Gunmen raid MP's home, steal car

Nairobi, Kenya: Gunmen raided the Nairobi home for Kasarani MP Njoroge Chege and stole his four-wheel drive car in Kasarani area, Nairobi.

The gang of four also clobbered and seriously injured a guard who was on duty and who had tried to block their way.

Police say they are looking for the gang that staged the raid at about 3 am on Thursday.

Chege was sleeping at the time of the attack and he was not harmed, Kasarani OCPD Francis Sang said.

Sang said the gang had pretended to be Chege's visitors before they went and registered their names at the main gate of the gated compound. While inside, they struggled to break into the MP's Toyota car raising the attention of the guard.

"It was then that they clobbered the guard and managed to drive out of the compound with the car," said Sang.

Police say they are yet to know the attackers and that they drove off with the car which had his personal documents.

Police believe the gang had a motive and knew the car and the owner well.

"Such thieves do not stage a raid on where they do not know. They knew what they wanted."

Elsewhere, police are looking for a gang that attacked a businessman and robbed him of his gun along Mombasa Road, in Nairobi.

The businessman was driving in his car when a gang of seven confronted him. This prompted a shootout but the gang apparently managed to grab his pistol and escaped with it in the Wednesday evening incident.

The businessman claims he shot and wounded one of the attackers in the stomach but his accomplices managed to grab the weapon from him after they wrestled him to the ground.

No arrest has been made so far. This is the second civilian to lose a gun to thugs in a week. Last week, another businessman was robbed of his gun in Ngong area, Nairobi. The Ceska pistol had 14 bullets when a gang that had been waiting at the entrance struck and went with it.

Such weapons are usually used to commit serious crimes in the city.
