Senators open new war front against Muturi

NAIROBI: Senators opened a fresh spat with their National Assembly counterparts Tuesday, accusing Speaker Justin Muturi of constant provocation and acting as if he is their prefect.

The senators were angered by a directive allegedly given by Muturi to Senate on prioritising constitutional bills passed to them from the Assembly, with a rider that Parliament risked being dissolved if they failed to meet the constitutional deadline.

The senators complained that the language used by Muturi bordered on perfecting the Senate on how it should conduct its business, with their Speaker Ekwee Ethuro terming the communication from his colleague as dismaying and disrespectful. "That was provocative, deliberately diversionary, disrespectful and a red-herring," said Ethuro.

The senators urged their Speaker not to bow to 'provocation and intimidation' from his counterpart, a counsel he promised to honour.

Minority Leader Moses Wetang'ula complained the warning given by Muturi was unwarranted, saying it showed how he demeaned the Senate.
