Nairobi, Kenya: Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett took oath of office Wednesday, promising that he would serve Kenyans indiscriminately.

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga presided over the ceremony at the Supreme Court.

"I will discharge all my duties according to law without fear, favour or affection or ill will, so help me God," said Boinett as he concluded his oath.

President Uhuru Kenyatta met the new IG moments after he was sworn in. Uhuru nominated Boinett in December, following the resignation of David Kimaiyo.

As Boinett comes in, there is anxiety within the police service over reports that there are major pending changes. This follows reports that he will be coming in with up to eight advisors.

The IG comes into office at a time when there have been claims of police corruption and cronyism that have affected service delivery. There are also claims of misunderstanding between the police and the National Intelligence Service. But Boinett has said he would not tolerate the blame games between the two units.

Boinett was Assistant Director of External Intelligence at the National Intelligence Service at the time of his nomination.
