A former military officer has been admitted to Kerugoya Level Four Hospital, Kirinyaga County, after his wife and children allegedly attacked him with a machete.

Peter Nyaga Mumia, a Kenya Defence Forces retiree, was apparently ambushed while asleep.

Recounting the ordeal from his hospital bed yesterday, Mumia said since retirement, ‘I have led a miserable life due to my family’s hostility, with my wife and children leading the onslaught’.

He said on the fateful day, he had retired to bed when his wife stormed into the bedroom and pinned him down while his daughter aimed at his head with a machete.

“I managed to throw my wife off balance, however, my daughter was quick and slashed my legs after missing her target,” he tearfully narrated.

His call for help apparently did not draw help, and considering his bleeding wounds, he struggled and drove to Kerugoya Police Station, where on arrival, he found his assailants already there, also claiming they had been assaulted.

“The officer on duty did not give me attention, and because I was in pain and the bleeding continued, I drove to hospital,” he said. Yesterday, Kirinyaga County Deputy Police Commander Charles Ontita, pledged to have the officer charged for negligence. He also promised to have the culprits, who have gone into hiding, brought to book.
