Our Kenyan representative in Hollywood, Lupita Nyong’o has changed her hairstyle. No, she is not wearing some Brazilian or Peruvian imported long strands of hair but rather graduated her short locks into cornrows. These changes don’t seem to amuse some of her fans. This includes Kiss TV’s presenter Grace Msalame who expressed her disappointment on Instagram.
“And then she pulled what you could call an authentic Kenyan look for the SAG Awards! I think Lupita needs to call back the stylist she had last year.... Just saying.... Red carpet failing this year,” she said. Her open criticism, however did not go well with some of Lupita’s fans with some accusing her of being ‘brain washed by the Western culture’.
“Brain washed by western culture. At least have some respect for your culture. She is outside there disseminating the Kenyan culture and what are you doing?” One fan, Dennis Obara questioned her.
Another fan, Wayua Brown, asked her: “Who died and made you fashion police? Your opinion, as much as you’ll find this difficult to hear and comprehend, doesn’t really matter! She looks absolutely gorgeous. You my dear, are an enemy of women. She was voted best dressed by the who’s who in fashion in the world. ...”
Reached for further comments, Grace said that she just spoke her mind and that she found Lupita’s new style a bit ‘shady’.
“I’m sick and tired of commenting on this matter. I want to move on,” she said.
