Homeboyz make light work of Quins as Kenya Cup rugby fixtures resume

Nairobi, Kenya: Homeboyz RFC claim they rightfully deserved their 36-22 Kenya Cup victory over Kenya Harlequin yesterday at the Ruaraka Grounds.

Playing in the first game of the weekend, Homeboyz were the clear masters of the game as they scored six tries to claim an important victory over their opponents. Speaking after the win, Homeboyz coach Paul Murunga lauded his troops for the victory and claimed they rightfully deserved it, given the amount of work they had put in.

"As we went to the Christmas break, we agreed that all players who are in Nairobi will continue training, while those who travelled up country, would come back early," Murunga explained.

"The boys kept true to their word and we have had very good training sessions that kept us fit for this game," he added.

Murunga explained that their main target this half of the season is to ensure they are adequately prepared for every game. "We have to play the top four in our next four games and we simply have to ensure we are ready for each one of them."

"It's going to be tough, but similar to last season, we believe we can inflict some upsets that can propel us to the semi-final slot," he explained. He feels they may suffer when they lose their national team players to national assignments, but he is confident they would have landed enough points by then.

"We spoke to the Sevens technical bench and agreed we will have our players for two more weekends before they break for national duty," he said.

On the other end, Quins coach Joel Nganga accepted defeat and said Homeboyz were the better team of the day. "We may have been affected by the break, but we really wanted to win this game," Nganga said.

"This will really have a bearing on our semifinal chase, but all we can do is  keep playing and hope for the best," he added.
