Thousands call for the release of man jailed for defending mother from abusive father

New Zealand:  More than 1,000 people have signed a petition calling for Benjamin Wilson to be freed, after he was jailed for trying to stop his abusive father attacking his mother.

The 22-year-old battered his dad with a hammer at their family home after hearing crashing and shouting coming from a bedroom.
