Sh30 million set aside for kidney facility at county referral hospital

NANDI COUNTY: The Nandi government has set aside Sh30 million for the establishment of a renal unit at the Kapsabet County Referral hospital.

Governor Cleophas Lagat said plans for the renal facility that will assist in early diagnosis and management of increased cases of the illness, and also ease access to affordable medical services for residents in the region, are underway.

He said the unit will give a face-lift to the referral hospital by operationalising new facilities that will also offer dialysis.

DELIVER SERVICES

"Once the facility is operational, it will drastically reduce costs for patients by reducing the need to seek medical procedures like dialysis at distant referral hospitals in Eldoret, Kisumu and Nairobi or even out of the country," said Dr Lagat.

The county boss said more attention is being directed to the health sector and new developments in Nandi will give meaning to the spirit of devolution that seeks to deliver services to all citizens at the grass roots.

He also said another Sh25 million has been earmarked for equipping dispensaries and health centres and also ensuring that they are adequately stocked with drugs.

Lagat announced that the county government has already bought six state-of-the art ambulances at the cost of Sh51 million.
