Man who predicted end of world buried

A religious sect leader who caught the country's attention in 2006 by predicting the end of the world that year 2006 was laid to rest on Tuesday at a village in Bomet.

House of Yahweh leader Willy Kiplangat Sang (Moshe) was buried hours after his death at his father's farm in Matarmat village at a low key ceremony attended by close relatives, neighbours and the group's followers.

Family members of the controversial prophet said he succumbed to tuberculosis at his Mauche home in Nakuru County where he was farming and preaching the gospel.

House of Yahweh representatives at the funeral, which went late into the night, said the church had lost a leader who had a big vision for the believers.

Joseph Lang'at (Yasep) from Siongiroi said they had to bury the departed preacher before the elapse of 24 hours as per their church's doctrines.

"I was informed of my brother Moshe's death while I had other commitments. But I left everything in respect for the Bible and rushed to come and ordinate the burial. The dead are unclean and we are supposed to bury them immediately to keep the remaining clean. This world is full of calamities because people disobey Yahweh by withholding the dead for several days," he said.

Moshe was the third born in a family of nine and the only believer of House of Yahweh. His parents are members of Africa Gospel Church while the other family members fellowship at Church of Christ.

He dropped out of Standard Three at Merigi Primary School and adopted House of Yahweh teachings at Mauche 16 years ago. Until his death, Moshe had been taking care of his four children after his wife Selly Sang's death.
