Tharaka-Nithi Woman Representative Beatrice Nkatha has castigated parents from the area who are still subjecting their girls to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) even after the practice was outlawed.

Ms Nkatha said it was a shame the county known for producing highly respected academicians and political heavyweights was still stuck in the outdated practice.

''It is a shame that some parents are subjecting girls to this stone age cultural practice,'' she said.

Speaking at the Chuka Stadium yesterday, Nkatha urged parents to let their children realise their full potential as women when they grow up.
