We have made our bed the Chinese way, let's lie in it

I was distressed to read that the Government has turned down offers by the Chinese embassy in Nairobi to be enjoined in investigations into cyber-crime involving their nationals.

I think that’s a fairly widespread practice and for obvious reasons: every state worth its salt, and there is no doubt China is worth a lot of salt, has a stake where its nationals are concerned.

Unless of course Kenyan authorities suspect that the Chinese outlaws were acting at the behest of their Government, which would amount to the serious charge of espionage.

Nothing could be further from the truth, for the People’s Republic of China are good friends of our Government and they cannot sanction such an illegality. Put another way, Kenyan authorities should have full trust in Chinese officials who are interested in the participating in the investigations.

After all, we have entrusted them with a lot more, from building roads to rail networks, which would be considered strategic security installations.

As a matter of fact, we so trust the Chinese, even the national broadcaster surrenders the airwaves to them every evening to propound their propaganda.

Did I mention they are putting up buildings at local universities and teaching their language? We should embrace them fully.
