Shock as policewoman commits suicide in Gilgil

Gilgil, Kenya: Police officers in Gilgil police station are in shock after one of their colleagues committed suicide in a bizzare incident.

The constable, who had reported to the new station a week ago, stabbed herself on the throat twice bleeding to death. A junior officer said the woman was depressed since she arrived from Kakamega last week and had threatened to commit suicide.

The officer, who declined to be named, added that the deceased, who is in her late 40s, was first transferred to Kakamega from Nakuru where she had served for a year.

"The environment in Kakamega was not conducive for her and she was transferred to Gilgil. A few days after she had settled, she was ordered back to Kakamega," said the officer.

The officer noted that neighbors who were concerned by her whereabouts broke into her house only to find her lying in a pool of blood.

"From the look of things, she stabbed herself twice on the throat and this led her to bleed profusely," said the source.
