KPL RACE TIGHTER: Gor hope to remain at summit today

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title chase has never been so tighter. There is just one point separating the two top sides, but this could change as champions Gor Mahia take on Mathare United at City Stadium today.
Gor cannot afford to drop points today after second-placed Sofapaka edged out Ushuru (formerly KRA) 3-2 last Thursday to get closer to the champions on the log.
The two (Gor and Sofapaka) will meet next Sunday at Machakos Municipal Stadium in a match that will determine how the title race shapes up and Gor therefore know they have to pick all three points today to have an edge over their opponents next Sunday.
Gor Mahia Midfielder Collins Okoth has admitted that beating Mathare United is key to giving them the morale they need to face Sofapaka next Sunday.
In an interview on the club's website Okoth said:"Victory against Mathare United would help add to the head of steam we are building ahead of the Sofapaka match."
The midfielder has enjoyed a good run in K'Ogalo's first team since his mid-season return to the club, starting in all but one of the premier league second round fixtures.
"We showed great character against City Stars and we won. Now we have Mathare United at home over the weekend, so we need to go on a run and win that game so we take a lot of confidence for the trip to Sofapaka."
"We have a great team, it is getting better and better and we can get some good results over the next four matches. It is up to us now; we have to know that we are in for big battles as everyone is looking to finish on a good.
"We are four points in the lead and that is nothing in today's football at this stage of the season. But if we play our game and perform we have a big chance to win it. I have no doubt we will be there."
With four matches to go, the KPL champions need to pick just three wins to be assured of defending the title starting on Sunday at their fortress.

Sony Sugar FC are poised to turn fortunes in their favour in yet another Premier league challenge against Nairobi City Stars as they seek to break an ominous four-match winless home run.

With a dwindling home record, Sony's coach Zedekiah Otieno 'Zico' is set to push his boys for the best results as they fight to close the season in the best eight bracket.

The Awendo-based side have had a bad run in the last four consecutive home matches after losing 1-0 to Western Stima in August and drawing 1-1 with Bandari in September.

Earlier this month, the millers had also drawn 2-2 with Sofapaka FC in a match their players and technical bench protested against.

The team also suffered a blow earlier in August when arch-rivals AFC Leopards were awarded three points and two goals after Sony declined to travel to Afraha Stadium where their home match against Leopards was scheduled to take place.

However, the ruling by Kenya Premier League to award AFC the match is still in contention at the Independent Disputes and Complaints Committee (IDCC) after a reversed ruling that the match be replayed was re-appealed by Leopards.

The top management of the Awendo club are confident that today's match will bring good results and that they will be able to maintain their position within the best half of all teams in the league.

Fixtures: Sunday: Gor Mahia v Mathare United (City Stadium), Sony Sugar v Nairobi City Stars (Awendo), KCB v Chemelil Sugar and Tusker v Muhoroni Youth (Kasarani).
