'Kanjoras' demonstrate they still have fighting spirit

The so-called glorified kanjoras, or Members of County Assembly in Nairobi reaffirmed they have lost none of their fighting spirit when they fought it out this week.

It’s been such a long time since Nairobians were treated to such drama many had forgotten MCAs’ job description is synonymous with that of kanjora.

And so although MCAs have certainly enjoyed more pay perks than their predecessors, the academic threshold was not enhanced, which means many of them have little other skills other than shouting themselves hoarse, or hurling at their opponents arsenals that they can lay their hands on.

That seems a safe conclusion to make since, judging from this week’s fight in Nairobi, and what happened in Makueni in recent weeks, MCAs appear to have serious difficulties in expressing their feelings using words, and instead prefer to use blows.

And while it used to be men fighting other men in the past, these days men have no shame fighting women in public. Or it could be women who have no shame fighting men in public.

Whatever the case, the Nairobi MCAs did well to demonstrate that months of silence did not mean they have forgotten how to fight. It was only a cessation of hostilities.
