President Uhuru Kenyatta meets National Security council, Cabinet ahead of special Parliament sitting

Nairobi, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta Monday held a meeting with National Security Council ahead of his special address to Parliament.

The president also convened a special cabinet meeting before attending the parliament meet where he met members of both the National Assembly and the Senate.

Friday, Uhuru asked members of both Houses, who have been on recess, to convene Monday for the special address where it is expected that he will speak about his summon to the International Criminal Court.

Sunday, CORD leaders Moses Wetangula and Boni Khalwale called on the coalition MPs to boycott the meet, saying that President Uhuru’s ICC summon is not a state if the nation issue.

Other CORD leaders who spoke to The Standard on phone said their decision to boycot the special session with President Uhuru Kenyatta was because they were concerned about the fate of Post election Violence victims.

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma said accompanying the president to The Hague or sitting down to listen to him is being insensitive to the victims, adding that several of whom come from his constituency.

"I cannot sit down and give the president idle audience as a statue over legal matters better addressed in court," said Kaluma, who claimed the invite by the Speaker lacked an agenda and he wouldn't attend out of leadership and principle.

However, some coalition members were Monday seen heading to parliament moments before the scheduled time for the address.
