Two nabbed with Sh6m rhino horns in Nyeri

Nyeri, Kenya: Two suspected poachers arrested with rhino horns valued at Sh6.4 million were on Monday charged with illegal possession of wildlife trophies.

However, the two, Stephen Mwaniki and David King'ori, denied the charges before Nyeri Principal Magistrate Susan Ngungi.

The court heard that the two were found in Chaka town, Nyeri, last Tuesday with two rhino horns weighing 6.45 kilogrammes.

When they were arraigned last week, the suspects did not take a plea because the prosecuting counsel, Felix Njue, requested more time to conclude investigations.

The two were released on a bond of Sh2 million each with two sureties of a similar amount.

The hearing was set for December 2.
