Apple’s iOS 8 operating software for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch launched on the 17th September. Some people will have access to it already -- just check on your device in your settings under "General". Click on "Software Update" and you should be able to download iOS 8 from there.
Make sure your device is plugged into a power source and connected to a Wi-Fi network as it will take a while and will burn through your data.
