Guinness sponsors Kenyan duo to watch live EPL match

Fredrick Mwangi had a dream of playing top-flight football in Kenya before moving abroad to play in the lucrative English Premier League (EPL) when he was growing up in Nkubu, Meru County.

However, the dream was cut short after high school. However, he never gave up. 

“I was a good footballer, but could not depend on football after high school since it could not put food on the table. So I embarked on finding the means to go to college,” said the 33-year-old electrician.

Despite the drawback, Mwangi’s passion for supporting former KPL side Tusker and Chelsea FC in the EPL never waned. The passion was strengthened this year when Tusker moved to Kinoru Stadium in Meru as their home ground as Mwangi lives just next door.

“I have never missed any Tusker FC game. Tusker’s coming to Meru revived my football passion and now I have a lot of engagements in sports,” says Mwangi.

It is during one of these football engagements that Mwangi recently got lucky to be the first winner of a fully paid trip to the United Kingdom (UK) to watch an EPL match.

“I won a trip in the ongoing Guinness Get Booked campaign. I have chosen my friend Silas Muchangi as my travelling partner to the UK,” Mwangi told FeverPitch.

The two are currently prepping for the lifetime trip where they will have opportunity to watch their favourite teams in the world’s biggest football league.

Mwangi said: “This is a lifetime opportunity. I had never dreamt of ever travelling out of the country but I am grateful the time has come.”

Muchangi, who is an ardent Manchester United supporter said said: “I will be forever be loyal to the Guinness brand for giving us a chance to fulfil our lifetime dream of watching a live EPL match in the UK.”
The two are scheduled to watch EPL contest between Manchester City and Chelsea on September 21 besides visiting some UK’s historic sites.
