Former AFC Leopards midfielder Paul Were finally made his debut for Premier Soccer League (PSL) side AmaZulu, when he featured in the team’s 2-2 tie against Polokwane City on Saturday.
Were has been at the club for the last two months without kicking a ball as he had not received a work permit from the South African government.
He joined AmaZulu in July and took part in a number of build-up matches as he waited for the all-important document.
It has now become difficult for foreign players to get a work permit following new rules put in place by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs, which insist that the document only be given out to exceptionally talented players.
