12-year-old pupil hangs himself in Subukia

A pupil of Maombi Primary School committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope from a tree on Sunday evening.

Subukia OCPD Alex Ng'ang'a said the 12-year-old was found by children who were herding livestock around Maombi Forest in Subukia sub-county.

Mr Ng'ang'a said the boy left home to play with other children but when they reached the forest, he used a rope he was carrying to hang himself.

"The child is reported to have told his mother that he was going to play with other children before taking his life," said Ng'ang'a.

His mother reported to police when he failed to return home.
