A convict escaped from a Swedish jail to go to the dentist because his painful toothache had become unbearable.
The 51-year-old prisoner, who has not been named, was serving a one month sentence at Östragård open prison in Vänersborg, Sweden.
He decided to mount an escape after he complained to prison officers that an inflamed molar was causing him pain - but days went by and nothing happened.
"I was all swollen in the face," he told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. "I just couldn't stand it any more."
As he was being held in a minimum security facility, he had no difficulty getting away.
He walked away from the compound to nearby Vänersborg, where he found a dentist, who removed his painful tooth.
He then handed himself into police, who drove him back to prison.
Prison staff gave the man a warning and extended his sentence by one day. He was kept locked up for the remainder of the sentence.
He has since been released, and says he is "still happy to have gotten rid of the toothache."
