AP officer found dead near JKIA fence

Nairobi, Kenya: Mystery surrounds an incident in which an Administration Police Officer was found dead next to the wall of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.

The body of police constable attached to office of Buuri Deputy County Commander's office was discovered by a herdsman who alerted police on patrol.

Police are probing whether he was murdered or he committed suicide. This is after a highly poisonous chemical –Triatix, which is used to kill animal ticks was found next to the body.

Police said they will wait for post-mortem results to establish the cause of death.

"We do not know how he got there. We will wait for the results to know what caused the death even though there are suspicions of suicide," said Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue.

The officer may have been killed and the body dumped there before the poison was placed next to it.

The discovery comes weeks after a body was found on the runway at the airport.

Police have since ruled out the body was of a stowaway. This was after checks on the body established it could not have come from a plane.

Airport CID boss Joseph Ngisa said Thursday they believe the man aged about 30 was murdered somewhere else and his body dumped there.

Two weeks ago an AP officer was found dead with his head blown up in his house in Nairobi's Utawala AP camp.

Officials said Edison Kipyegon, 42, is suspected to have taken his life three days before his body was found on his bed with a gunshot wound in the head.
