Woman kills husband for 'refusing' to buy her shoes

Tragedy struck Makutano market in Kirinyaga County yesterday morning when a woman stabbed her husband to death for allegedly refusing to buy her a pair of shoes worth Sh1,000.

The deceased identified as James Kibui, 34, is said to have been preparing to leave their house for Nairobi to collect more wares for his shop when a quarrel erupted.

“Kibui left the house but on reaching the gate, he realised it had been locked and went back to the house to ask his wife to open it. But she refused and instead picked a quarrel with him,” said Nancy Wanjiru, a neighbour.

Wanjiru said the couple had a heated exchange before she heard Kibui screaming loudly. She rushed to the couple's house and found him lying on the floor with blood oozing from his neck.

County Police Commander Christine Mutua said the woman had been arrested.

"The suspect, aged 23, has a six-month-old infant. The child is with the mother, who is in custody at Sagana Police Station," Ms Mutua said.
