Jubilee hosting South Sudan rebel leaders, claims Wiper Party MP

Machakos, Kenya: A Wiper party MP has accused the Jubilee administration of allegedly hosting key financiers of rebels whom he claims are responsible for the on-going skirmishes in the neighboring South Sudan.

Stephen Mule, who represents Matungulu constituency in the National Assembly claims the Government has been using tax payers’ money to host some 11 wealthy rebels allied to South Sudanese key rebel leader Riech Machar, in Nairobi.

The MP asked President Kenyatta to have them evicted from the country immediately. Yesterday, Mule named the eleven, whom he says were former high-ranking officials in President Salva Kiir’s government before the sacking of his former VP-turned rebel leader, Dr Machar.

They include former SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Okiech, former minister for Cabinet Affairs, Deng Kuol, former deputy Minister of Defence, Majok D’Agoot, former Ministerof Roads and Transport, Gier Aluong and Oyay Ajak who was a former Minister for National Security.

Others are former Ministers John Luk Jok (Justice), Madut Biar (Telecommunication and Postal Services), Kosti Manibe (Finance) and Cirino Ofuho (Youth and Sports).

Mr Mule also named former Governor of Lakes State, Chol Mayai, former GOSS Mission to Washington DC, Ezekiel Lol as well as former First Lady Rabecca Nyandeng De Mabior.

“I have information that they are currently accommodated at Windsor Hotel with the exception of Rabecca Nyandeng who is living in her luxurious Lavington house,” he said.

Since December last year, rebel soldiers allied to Machar have engaged the country’s forces in a deadly battle that has so far claimed thousands and left over 1.5 civilians displaced in the world’s youngest state.

Addressing journalists after leading a fundraiser at Tala Central Salvation Armey church, the outspoken legislator claimed he, and several other legislators allied to Cord coalition whom he did not name, have gathered sufficient evidence relating to the fugitives’ wealth and assets.

The MP further alleges that the said rebels, who he has christened G11 plus one, have been courting the Government to allocate it a temporary military base in Kenya’s North-Western frontier of Lokichoggio from where they could launch attacks against the South Sudanese government forces.

“As the current chairman of IGAD, President Kenyatta must show leadership and take immediate action to ensure the rebels are deported with immediate effect in order to fast track efforts to restore peace in the war torn country,” he said.

Mr Mule challenged the Jubilee government to treat the issue of national security with the importance that it deserves and stop harboring fugitives from warring countries. “If South Sudan fails as a state, we shall be creating another Somalia and that could lead to severe consequences to Kenya as a country,” he said.
