Isiolo International Airport is finally set to reopen mid-next month. Construction works for upgrading of the airport, touted as the third largest in the country after Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Mombasa’s Moi International Airport, has been dogged by delays, with reopening dates having been pushed forward several times last year.

Kenya Airports Authority, however, now says construction works are nearly complete and President Uhuru Kenyatta will commission mid-next month.

Last October, the State strongly hit out at the contractor for the slow pace of the upgrade. Transport Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera laid into M/s Northern Construction Company Limited when he toured the airport that straddles Isiolo and Meru counties. —Ali Abdi
