Growing back your hairline

Balding edges and hair breaking has been known to only affect women who chemicalise their hair, wear weaves or older women. But nothing can be far from a lie; any woman can experience it.

A thinning hairline can be a source of embarrassment and stress especially to women who always keep their hair healthy, beautiful and strong. Many factors can lead to your hairline thinning.

Always act the moment you notice your edges are thinning out. Some may wonder if there is hope of re-growing the edges especially if they have struggled with the problem their entire lives. The following tips will help grow back your edges:

Tension: Keep away from any style that puts a lot of tension on your edges and follicles. If you continuously hold your hair in a tight ponytail, stop it. If anything, avoid braiding altogether. If hair is continuously pulled out, this leads to permanent damage, over time.

Manipulation of edges: The amount of contact you have with the edges should be as minimal as possible. As much as possible, avoid combing, brushing or even touching the edges so that the hair can flourish. If you have to touch it, use a good moisturizing gel.

Moisture: The edges ought to be oiled and moisturized on a regular basis. Castor oil, for example is good for thinning edges as it reduces the damage on the edges by fixing the follicles and stimulates hair growth. Be gentle as you massage the oil into the hair.

Patience: Re-growth will not happen overnight. You need to be patient and consistent in handling the edges as prescribed above. It may take months before you notice any improvement, but the wait is worth it.

Massage: Scalp massage increases blood flow and circulation that aids the follicles and the scalp. The enhanced circulation brings nutrients and oxygen to the follicles thus aids in re-growth. The massage should be done by a professional.

Natural products: Only natural products should touch around or near the hairline. Keep make-up, facial cleansers and moisturisers away from the hairline as they could cause more damage to the hair.

Supplements: Multi-vitamin supplements aid in hair growth. None will offer instant re-growth but research has shown that hair vitamins encourage hair growth.

Pillowcase: Always sleep on a satin pillowcase instead of cotton. Cotton absorbs natural oils and moisture out of the hair, which your hair desperately needs if it is thinning. The friction between the hair and cotton pillowcase can also lead to hair breakage.

Weave, wigs and wig caps: Give your hair a chance to breath. These block your scalp from breathing. So steer clear of them if you are trying to re-grow your hair. It needs air!
